Our approach to energy management is based on the Group’s focus on absolute reduction of emissions.  As a Group, we continue to drive concerted efforts towards reducing consumption of energy from non-renewable sources. Given the energy intensive nature of our operations we have invested in green energy sources such as solar power to generate renewable energy and shift away from fossil fuels.

SBTi Commitment

In 2020, we proudly became the inaugural textile manufacturer in Sri Lanka to pledge our commitment to the Science-Based Target Initiative. Our submitted targets are in accordance with the net-zero objectives, aiming to restrict the rise in climate temperatures to 1.5 degrees Celsius.

The Science-Based Targets Initiative has officially affirmed that our corporate greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets align with the SBTi Criteria and Recommendations (version 5), demonstrating our commitment to adherence and conformity.

ISO 50001 Certification

Since December 2021, we have been adhering to the ISO 50001 Energy Management Standard, making us the inaugural fabric mill to achieve ISO 50001 certification. This certification guarantees the utmost efficiency in our energy usage.

Renewable Energy Usage

We were able to generate 70% of energy usage using both Biomass & Solar.

Solar Energy Generation

In 2021, we successfully implemented the largest rooftop solar installation in the country. This cutting-edge installation incorporates 9,000 solar panels spread across an expansive rooftop area of 18,000 square meters. With an impressive installed capacity of 4.6 MW, our system makes a substantial contribution to the national grid, reinforcing our commitment to sustainable energy solutions.

GHG Verification

Annually, we meticulously calculate our greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in accordance with the ISO 14064-1:2018 standard. The verification process is carried out by an independent third-party consultant, the Sri Lanka Climate Fund. The gases considered during this assessment encompass CO2, CH4, N2O, and HFCs, reflecting our commitment to transparent and accountable environmental practices.

Energy Saving Projects

We are currently implementing department-specific energy-saving projects as part of our ongoing efforts to achieve long-term goals for energy efficiency and emission intensity. These initiatives are closely monitored to ensure their effectiveness.

  • Efficient pump replacement project at the water treatment and waste water treatment area

  • Replacing existing HFO fired thermic heaters with biomass operated thermic heater

  • Optimizing the compressed air system
